Singapore Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean Visits the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City
1 July 2018, Tianjin: Mr Teo Chee Hean, Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security, visited the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City today as part of his nine-day visit to China. DPM Teo was accompanied by Mr Lawrence Wong, Singapore Minister for National Development and Second Minister for Finance, Mr Baey Yam Keng, Singapore Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Transport and Community, Culture and Youth, Dr Tan Wu Meng, Singapore Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Trade and Industry, and Ms Sun Xueling, Singapore Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Home Affairs and National Development.

During his tour of the Eco-City, which also celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, DPM Teo visited the Low Carbon Living Lab (LCLL) in the Eco-Business Park and was briefed by Mr Tay Lim Heng, CEO of the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City Investment and Development Co., Ltd. (SSTEC), on SSTEC’s role as the master developer of the Eco-City. Besides the development and sale of residential, commercial and industrial land, SSTEC manages infrastructure development and carries out facilities management. SSTEC also plays an active role in supporting the collaboration between the Singapore and Chinese governments in building a vibrant community in the Eco-City. To date, there are over 30,000 homes in the Eco-City, and more than 6,500 companies and institutions registered.

DPM Teo was briefed on the sustainable and green features of the LCLL.
DPM Teo was then briefed on the LCLL, a model green building in the Eco-City that is also the first BCA Green Mark Platinum Building in China. LCLL showcases and promotes both Singapore and China’s best practices in the development of sustainable design strategies and green building technologies. As an experimental and interactive green building, LCLL serves as a ‘living laboratory’ that operates as an R&D space and demonstrates unique low carbon design features.

At LCLL, DPM Teo also met Singaporean SSTEC staff at the indoor garden, a space that specially filters indoor air while creating a vibrant indoor space.
Mr Tay Lim Heng, CEO of SSTEC, said "We are happy for the opportunity to show DPM Teo the transformation of the Eco-City over the past 10 years, from a barren wasteland to a livable and thriving green city. "
During his tour, DPM Teo also visited Ganlu Creek, the Eco-City’s Smart Centre, Jing Lake, No.3 Community Centre, and attended the launch ceremony of the Eco-City’s city centre.
As part of his visit to China, DPM Teo also met with Mr Li Hongzhong, Party Secretary of CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee.
