Masterplan

The China-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City’s master plan was jointly developed by China and Singapore. Taking into consideration the social, economic and environmental needs of an eco-city, the Eco-City integrates 3 key planning principles, i.e. land-use planning, green transportation planning, and green and blue network planning, to provide a good environment to live, work, play and learn in.

  • Land-use Planning
  • Green Transportation Planning
  • Green and Blue Network Planning

Besides ensuring good environmental quality, the Eco-City is planned for intensive and efficient use of land resources and orderly development, to create a liveable and business-friendly urban environment. The Eco-City incorporates Transit-Oriented Development principles, and carries out landuse and transport development in an integrated manner.

The planning for residential areas in the Eco-City is three-tiered. Eco-Cells are basic building blocks of the Eco-City. Each cell is about 400m by 400m large, generally accepted as a comfortable walking distance. Four Eco-Cells make an Eco-Community. Several Eco-Communities come together to form an Eco-District. There are five Eco-Districts in the Eco-City. Each Eco-Community is planned to include a community centre, which is adapted from the neighborhood centre concept in Singapore. Each Eco-District has amenities and workplace to serve its residents.

The emphasis on green transport is a key feature in transport planning of the Eco-City. The aim is to increase trips via public transport and non-motorised modes of transport, such as cycling and walking, reducing the reliance on private vehicles within the Eco-City.

The Eco-City is planned to have "One Island, Three Waters, Six Corridors". "One Island" refers to the Eco-Island that forms the open and green core. "Three Waters" refer to the Ji Canal, Old Ji Canal and Jing Lake. "Six Corridors" refer to the eco-corridors that branch out from the area enclosed by Ji Canal and Old Ji Canal, with its focus revolving around man-made water bodies and greening.

Structural Planning

The Master Plan can be summarised as "1 spine", "3 centres", "5 districts", "3 waters" and "6 corridors". It is bounded by Central Avenue in the east, Ji Canal in the west, Yong Ding River in the south and Jin Han Expressway in the north.

1 spine
It refers to the Eco-Valley which links up the districts and commercial centres from south to north. It is 12km long and 50 to 80m wide. Its plan does not allow for cars to drive through and provides a beautiful green path for pedestrians and cyclists, building a conducive platform for community interaction and healthy activities.
3 centres
This refers to the main City centre and the two sub-centres. The City Centre is located in the Central District and the two sub-centres are in the north and south of the Eco-City.
  • North Sub Centre
  • City Centre

5 districts
This refers to 5 integrated development districts in the southern, central, northern and north-eastern parts of the Eco-City, and the Eco-Island. Each district plans and designs various kinds of residential projects, as well as commercial and amenities centres to serve the residents.
